NEW BEGINNINGS?
The "End Of The Year" season is in full swing, with everybody seemingly wishing the last days of this year away, hoping that 2020 will be our knight in shining armour. Well, I hate to disappoint you, but the forecast is bad: 2020 will carry on where 2019 ends, with the same burdens of sin and guilt and shame and failures that crushed us this year. A new year won't change anything. New Year's resolutions won't change anything, except adding more disappointment when we fail in keeping them.
New beginnings come not at a point in the calendar, but at the foot of the cross—for newcomers as well as old hands. If you've never bowed and committed yourself to the Lord Jesus Christ, do it now. And if you have walked with Him for a long time, but everything seems old and grey, he is the great Restorer of brokenness. At the end of this age He has promised to make all things new, but you can be made new on the inside right now. Just ask.
Even if faith seems far away, ask. His promise does not depend on our faith, but on who He is: "The LORD, compassionate and gracious..." (Exodus 34:6)
